Engine 38 First Due on West Wildwood Dwelling Fire

.

On Sunday March 23, 2014 at approximately 19:32 hours Engine 38 and Engine 2 were dispatched to 636 W. Poplar Ave. in the Borough of West Wildwood for a reported dwelling fire.  Engine 38 (C Platoon) under the command of Deputy Chief Speigel arrived on scene and found heavy smoke showing from a 2-1/2 story wood frame private dwelling.  DFC Speigel ordered the all hands transmitted.  Engine 38 established a water supply and quickly stretched  a 1-3/4" attack line to the front door.  Engine 38 stretched into the dwelling and made an aggressive interior attack quickly knocking down the bulk of the fire within minutes.  A primary search was conducted and the dwelling was found to be unoccupied.  Additional arriving companies were sent to the floor above and found fire extension on that floor and the attic.  Companies worked to open up and extinguish the remaining fire in numerous void spaces.  Engine 38 operated on the scene for approximately 3 hours before returning to service.
